LDF ABIA STATE OUTREACH: 263 LIVES TOUCHED THROUGH EDUCATION, HEALTH AWARENESS AND LOVE

One community. Two outreach stops. One mission: to leave people better than we met them.

What does impact look like when resources are limited, but the desire to make a difference remains strong?

Sometimes, it looks like a student learning to say no to drug abuse. Sometimes, it is a girl receiving sanitary pads that help her manage her period with dignity. Sometimes, it is a child at an orphanage receiving essential supplies and discovering, through the kindness of others, that they are not forgotten.

Today, the Linda Dominguez Foundation SMILE Mission brought these moments together in Umuahia South, Abia State, Nigeria, reaching a total of 263 children and adults through education support, hygiene supplies, drug abuse sensitisation and community care.

Led by Oluchi Precious Emeka, Umuahia South City Director, Abia State, the outreach took us to two important stops, each reminding us why community-based action matters.

STOP ONE: MGBARAKUMA COMMUNITY JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, UBAKALA

200 students. 13 teachers. One conversation that could influence a lifetime of decisions.

Our visit to Mgbarakuma Community Junior Secondary School went beyond distributing school supplies and essential hygiene materials. It created an opportunity to speak to young people about choices that can shape their health, education and future.

Through a drug abuse awareness sensitisation session, students learned about the meaning of drug abuse, its potential consequences, and the risks associated with substance misuse.

We discussed how drug abuse can affect physical and mental wellbeing, academic performance, relationships and future opportunities. The students were encouraged to resist negative peer pressure, choose responsible friendships, seek guidance from trusted adults and make informed decisions when faced with difficult situations.

The message was clear: your future is worth protecting.

Young people deserve more than warnings. They deserve knowledge, honest conversations and the confidence to make healthier choices.

Prevention begins when we provide accurate information before harmful habits take root. By bringing this conversation into the school environment, we hope to encourage students to value their education, protect their wellbeing and pursue their ambitions with purpose.

Alongside the sensitisation, school supplies, hygiene products, sanitary pads and sausages were distributed to support the students' practical needs.

Because education is not only about what happens on the blackboard. It is also about helping young people develop the knowledge, habits and confidence to navigate life.

STOP TWO: AGAPE MOTHERLESS HOME, AVODIM, UBAKALA

50 children. Essential supplies. A reminder that every child matters.

From the school, our mission continued to Agape Motherless Home in Avodim, Ubakala, Umuahia South.

Here, the outreach took on another expression of our mission: compassion in action.

We shared essential supplies, educational materials, hygiene items and other provisions to support the children's everyday needs. We also delivered 15 bags of water, containing 300 individual pieces, to the home.

Clean drinking water is a basic necessity, yet access to essential resources remains a practical challenge for many communities. This contribution was one way of supporting the home's daily needs while extending care beyond the classroom.

But an outreach is never just about what we deliver.

It is also about the people we meet, the attention we give, and the reminder that vulnerable children deserve care, protection, dignity and opportunities to thrive.

Every child deserves to feel valued. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and imagine a future filled with possibilities.

Our visit to Agape Motherless Home reflected a belief at the heart of the Linda Dominguez Foundation: kindness becomes meaningful when we put it into action.

263 LIVES. ONE SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.

Today's Abia State outreach recorded:

- 263 children and adults impacted
- 200 students and 13 teachers reached at Mgbarakuma Community Junior Secondary School
- 50 children reached at Agape Motherless Home
- 15 bags of water, containing 300 individual pieces, provided to the orphanage
- School supplies and educational materials distributed
- Hygiene supplies and sanitary pads provided
- Drug abuse awareness sensitisation conducted

These numbers tell part of the story. The deeper impact lies in the knowledge shared, the needs addressed and the connections strengthened within the community.

A student may remember the conversation about resisting peer pressure when faced with a difficult decision. A girl may feel better prepared to manage her menstrual hygiene. A child at the home may benefit from the essential supplies delivered.

We cannot measure every outcome today, but we can choose to keep showing up.

WHY THE SMILE MISSION EXISTS

The Linda Dominguez Foundation was built on a simple conviction: literacy, health education, dignity and compassion must reach people where they are.

Our SMILE Mission connects these needs because wellbeing cannot be separated into isolated boxes. Children need education, but they also need hygiene resources. Young people need guidance, but they also need safe opportunities to ask questions and make informed choices. Vulnerable families and children need practical support, but they also deserve to be treated with dignity.

That is why our work extends beyond distributing items. We aim to share knowledge, respond to community needs and create opportunities for people to read, rise and thrive.

Today's outreach in Abia State was another step in that journey.

We celebrate Oluchi Precious Emeka, Umuahia South City Director, and everyone who contributed their time, resources and effort to make this mission possible.

To everyone who believes in what we do, thank you for helping us turn compassion into action.

Our work continues, locally and globally, one community at a time.

Linda Dominguez Takeaway: 🗣️Impact is not always measured by the size of a donation. Sometimes, it is measured by the knowledge a child carries home, the healthier choice a student is encouraged to make, or the essential resource that reaches a child who needs it.

We may not be able to solve every challenge in one day, but we can make sure that the people we reach are not overlooked.

One school. One children's home. 263 lives touched. And one mission that continues: to transform futures through compassion, education and innovation.
