One child waiting for a book. One girl missing school because she lacks sanitary pads. One community waiting for someone to show up. And one global family determined to make a difference.
She asked us, “What does SMILE mean?”
We could have given her five letters. Instead, we showed her a mission.
At the Linda Dominguez Foundation, SMILE is more than a name. It is our commitment to helping children, young people, women and underserved communities access education, health knowledge, dignity and opportunities to thrive.
Because somewhere today, a child is waiting for a book she has never owned.
Somewhere, a girl is sitting at home because she cannot afford sanitary pads.
Somewhere, a young person needs guidance, a family needs support, and a community is waiting for someone to care enough to act.
These are not distant stories. They are real challenges that demand more than sympathy. They demand action.
That is why we built the SMILE Mission.

Every letter represents a commitment to the people and communities we serve.
S — STEM EDUCATION: SHARING HOPE WITH ALL
Every child deserves the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics, regardless of background or financial circumstances.
Through STEM education, we want children to discover their abilities, develop problem-solving skills and imagine careers they may never have considered possible.
We share knowledge. We share opportunities. We share hope.
Because a child's future should not be limited by the opportunities available in their community today.
M — MENTORSHIP AND LITERACY: MOTIVATION TO MAKE DREAMS STAND TALL
A book can introduce a child to a world they have never seen. A mentor can help them believe they belong in it.
Literacy gives children the tools to read, understand, communicate and make informed decisions. Mentorship helps them build confidence, discover their strengths and keep moving towards their goals.
We want every child to know that their circumstances do not define their potential.
Sometimes, all it takes is access to a book, someone willing to teach, or a trusted voice saying, “You can do this.”
I — IMPACT THROUGH HEALTH AND LIFE SKILLS: INSPIRATION THAT LIFTS EVERY HEART
Education must extend beyond the classroom.
Children and young people need accurate health information, practical life skills and the confidence to make informed choices.
From menstrual hygiene and drug abuse prevention to personal wellbeing, healthy relationships and everyday safety, we believe knowledge can help people protect themselves and improve their lives.
A girl should understand her body without shame. A student should know the risks of substance misuse. A young person should have the confidence to seek guidance when faced with difficult decisions.
From periods to purpose, we want knowledge to empower every life.
L — LEADERSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT: LOVE SO NOBODY FEELS APART
Every community has people with the potential to lead, serve and inspire change.
Our mission is to help nurture that potential by encouraging responsibility, confidence, participation and service to others.
We want young people to understand that leadership is not only about holding a position. It is also about taking initiative, helping others and using one's abilities to make a positive difference.
Through empowerment, we want people to recognise their worth, discover their strengths and become active contributors to their communities.
No child should feel invisible. No young person should believe their voice does not matter.

Not everyone begins life with the same resources, opportunities or support.
Some children lack school supplies. Some girls struggle to access menstrual products. Some families need essential hygiene items, health education or basic necessities.
Equity means recognising these differences and working towards solutions that respond to people's actual needs.
Through community outreach, educational support, hygiene initiatives and practical assistance, we strive to reach people who might otherwise be overlooked.
Our goal is not simply to distribute supplies. It is to help create conditions in which people can learn, live with dignity and pursue better futures.
